I am so excited about grilling season, and that is why I am bringing you my 4 favorite summer marinade recipes.

There’s something so delicious about grilled food, and it has the added bonus of reducing the amount of dishes that I have to do.

Ever since we moved to our current home, we have spent more and more time outside, and the grill makes it so much easier to enjoy the beautiful summer weather.

I mean, who wouldn’t want to be outside more?   Look at that view!

 

For a long time we just threw some meat on the grill and then put some sauce on it later, but we had no clue the flavor we were missing from marinading ahead of time.

Yes, it takes some advance planning but marinading makes a huge difference in the flavor and moisture of your food. 

So experiment with these marinade recipes.  Try them on chicken, beef, seafood or veggies.   They sky is literally the limit!

Why you should make your own marinades

A pre-packaged store marinade is highly processed and loses potency the longer it sits on the shelf.   That means a flavor that would be more intense if you made it yourself loses intensity every day it sits waiting for you to buy it.

Even grosser, they tend to be filled with unnecessary preservatives, fillers, and sugar.  These recipes are free of any grossness!

But as awesome as fresh ingredients are, the key to being a pro at marinating is to know what length of marinating gets you which results.

Marinating times:

  • Marinating for two hours or less will impart a surface flavor.
  • For a fully infused flavor, marinade for 8-24 hours.

NOTES:

  • The thicker the meat, the longer it takes to absorb the flavor.
  • When using essential oils in your marinade, do not use plastic to hold your meat.   Marinate in a glass or stainless steal container to avoid any seepage of plastic chemicals into your food.

How to make these summer marinade recipes:

When you are making your marinades, the easiest way to do it is to combine all your ingredients in a blender and just take them for a spin.

You can also whisk them together in a glass measuring cup or bowl, too if you prefer.

Here are a few of my favorite marinade recipes.

Want to make some delicious chicken tacos?  This recipe is perfect for that!

  • Juice of 2 limes
  • 1⁄3 cup olive oil
  • 1 clove garlic – minced
  • 1/2 cup lightly packed fresh cilantro leaves, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1⁄2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1⁄2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 2 drops Black Pepper Vitality Essential Oil
  • 2 drops Lime Vitality Essential Oil

Shrimp Marinade 

This marinade is perfect for shrimp kabobs…yum!

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 drops Lemon Vitality  Essential Oil
  • 2 drops Coriander Vitality Essential Oil

Fresh Citrus Marinade

This marinade is amazing on chicken or fish!

  • 1/2 cup coconut aminos (or soy sauce)
  • 3/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 tsp onion powder (or 1 TBSP finely chopped fresh onion)
  • 1 large lemon juiced
  • 2 drops Orange Vitality
  • 2 drops Lemon Vitality
  • 1 drop Ginger Vitality

Mediterranean Marinade

This is wonderful on steaks and beef.    I’ve even used it on game and it imparts amazing flavor!  For this one, the longer you let it marinade the more flavor you will get, and it is so worth it.

This is also really good on grilled vegetables!

  • 1/2 cup coconut aminos (or soy sauce)
  • 3/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 TBSP red wine vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder (or 1 clove garlic minced)
  • 1 drop Oregano Vitality
  • 2 drops Lemon Vitality
  • 1 drop Black Pepper Vitality
